Performance Pointers Archives If people are your greatest asset ... Instead of galloping along with the panic-stricken herd of organizations tripping all over themselves in a mad dash to cut costs by shedding staff left, right and center, now would be a good time to sit tight for a bit. Rethink. Re-invent. Reorganize the way your company does business. Find savings - long-term savings - in re-tooled and redesigned business processes. Invest strategically in upgrading your staff’s technical and managerial expertise. Invest in programs to encourage and foster cross-departmental collaboration, which is arguably the only way to be truly innovative. Talk to a human performance consultant to help you overcome your blind spots when you think about your company’s performance. Find out why that new ERP system you put in place 18 months ago still hasn’t delivered on its promised efficiencies. Explore whether your people are being adequately rewarded for the right things - or penalized in some way for doing the right things. How much money is leaking away in inefficient processes without you noticing? Can you afford to leave potential savings on the table? How many good people must you lose, before you stop cutting off your nose to spite your face? Find out - and then get some help to fix it.
Count your acorns, and preserve your berries, by all means. But don’t throw out the very people whose brains will think you out of this temporary recession.
